"Equine Veterinarians Australia - Helping Vets Help Horses"
Welcome to the website of the Equine Veterinarians Australia (EVA)
The EVA website is here to provide access to relevant resource and educational material that is important to equine veterinarians and horse owners.Equine Veterinarians Australia (EVA) is a Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Australian Veterinary Association. The EVA is a not for profit organisation that is comprised of a membership of equine veterinarians from across Australia. The EVA services the needs of these members and also acts as a representative body for the interests of equine veterinarians within the Australian equestrian communities. The EVA also advises upon horse health issues as an active stakeholder in the equine industry. The EVA is in the business of elevating standards, furthering research and knowledge, developing post-graduate equine veterinary continuing education and promoting its core resources among its members and to community. Whilst this website is primarily intended as a service for members of the EVA, we also hope this website will prove useful to members of the public who have an interest in horses. I hope that you enjoy the EVA website.

Suspicious new Hendra Virus Cases cases in Queensland horses - QLD VET PRACTICE UNDER QUARANTINE.
"Dr Ron Glanville, Chief Veterinary Officer, Biosecurity Queensland, Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries has reported an outbreak of Hendra Virus at a Vet Clinic in the Redlands area. The clinic has been quarantined which includes some 39 horses. To date 3 horses have died and tests are ongoing on others to confirm or rule out the Virus. At this stage the cause of the outbreak of the virus is not know. The DPI&F are confident that the strict quarantine procedures in place at the Redlands Clinic will contain the virus but everyone is asked to be vigilant. These horses presented with neurological signs and DID NOT present with respiratory signs. Veterinarians are reminded Hendra Virus/Equine Morbillivirus is a zoonotic disease and precautions as described on the QLD DPI website need to be taken. Please click on the link to view Precautions to be taken"
